EU Officials Seize 200,000+ Counterfeit Condoms Smuggled from China on July 12

According to the EU Anti-Fraud Office (Olaf), over 200,000 fake condoms smuggled from China were seized across Europe on July 12. The counterfeit products, shipped with false toy labels to bypass safety checks, were sold in countries including Spain under well-known brand names. Olaf chief Petr Klement stated that counterfeit condoms are "untested, uncontrolled and unsafe." The surge in fakes has been linked to price spikes caused by the mid-2026 closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. Health officials warn that the fake condoms pose risks of sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies to consumers.
