FinWise Acquires Card Platform, Moves $50M in Balances to Own Balance Sheet

According to FinWise Bancorp's 8-K filing, the Nasdaq-listed lender acquired the technology platform behind its co-branded credit card programs in July 2026, nine months after signing the initial program management agreement in October 2025. The acquisition grants FinWise end-to-end ownership of card issuing from application through servicing.

The transaction moves approximately $50 million in credit-enhanced credit card balances from a third-party program manager to FinWise's own balance sheet, converting them to standard balances and transferring first-loss risk to the bank. FinWise expects roughly $4 million in integration and transition costs over the next year and withdrew prior guidance of $217 million in credit-enhanced balances by year-end 2026.
