Goldman Sachs Estimates 140,000 June Nonfarm Jobs Added, Up 40,000 From World Cup

According to Goldman Sachs, the June nonfarm employment report to be released on Thursday is likely to come in stronger than market expectations of 115,000 new jobs added. Goldman estimates June nonfarm payrolls will reach 140,000, boosted by approximately 40,000 job opportunities generated by the FIFA World Cup, with gains concentrated in leisure and hospitality, professional services, and trade and transportation sectors. Goldman economists noted that data from small business payroll service Homebase shows world cup host cities saw only a 1.2% decline in hiring versus 3.5% elsewhere, while hospitality sector hiring increased 9.5%.
