According to Yonhapinfomax, on July 27, Indonesia's rupiah weakened 0.26% to 17,961 per dollar, continuing losses as the central bank governor announced his resignation. The government said Perry Warjiyo stepped down for personal reasons, though analysts suggest his inability to defend the currency against sustained depreciation contributed to the decision.
Rupiah has been among Asia's worst-performing currencies this year, depreciating over 7% since January. The central bank's repeated market interventions and rate increases of 100 basis points since May failed to arrest the decline.
