Iran Demands Full Control of Hormuz Strait Shipping Lanes, Threatens Closure if Oman Rejects on July 29

According to Iranian state news agency Tasnim, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister on July 29 proposed negotiations with Oman over temporary shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran demands that incoming maritime traffic be entirely controlled by Iran, with Iranian control also extending to part of outgoing lanes. The official stated that Oman initially suggested a 50-50 split, which Iran rejected. If Oman does not accept Iran's proposal, the strait will remain closed and Iran has prepared for war resumption, the Deputy Foreign Minister warned. Iran will not recognize any southern shipping corridor in the strait under any circumstances.
