Iran's Revolutionary Guard Closes Strait of Hormuz Starting July 12

According to Jin10, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Navy announced early on July 12 that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed effective immediately and no vessels are permitted to transit. The closure announcement came hours after several ships attempted to navigate along routes not approved by Iran; one vessel shut off its automatic identification system and was struck by Iranian warning fire before being halted. Iran warned that the closure will remain in effect until further notice and until the United States ceases interfering in the region.
