Japan's May Current Account Surplus Misses Expectations at ¥3.97 Trillion

According to Japan's Ministry of Finance, the country's May current account surplus came in at ¥3.9683 trillion on July 8, falling short of market expectations of ¥4.1213 trillion. However, the surplus widened by ¥647.8 billion year-over-year as the trade balance swung to a surplus of ¥69 billion. May exports rose 14.7% to ¥9.3602 trillion, while imports increased 8.1% to ¥9.3533 trillion, compared to the same period last year.
