Kospi Plunges Nearly 9%, MSCI Emerging Markets Hit 7-Week Low on Monday

MSCI2.52%
SK Hynix-15.36%

On Monday, July 7, South Korea's Kospi index plunged nearly 9% after SK Hynix shares crashed and triggered a market-wide trading halt. The sell-off was driven by a wave of artificial intelligence stock liquidation across the region.

MSCI's Emerging Markets index fell 2.4%, closing at its lowest level since May 20. The declines were compounded by escalating Middle East tensions and rising oil prices, which pressured most emerging market currencies.
