According to The Wall Street Journal, over the past year, South Korea's KOSPI index (South Korea's benchmark equity index) experienced 77 trading days with single-day swings exceeding 2%, compared to just 5 times for the U.S. S&P 500 index. KOSPI saw 44 days with moves surpassing 3%—the S&P 500 never exceeded 3%—and 23 days with swings above 5%.

Foreign capital outflows totaled over $100 billion in the first half of 2026, with $30 billion flowing out in June alone, a trend that could result in losses for local investors.
