According to Bitcoin Magazine, Lightning Labs released the alpha version of Wavelength on July 23, a toolkit providing non-custodial API access to self-hosted Bitcoin payments for developers and AI agents without requiring node operation, channel management, or liquidity provisioning. The tool supports on-chain Bitcoin, Lightning Network payments, and settlement layers similar to Ark, with all off-chain payments using standard BOLT 11 invoices compatible with existing Lightning infrastructure. AI agents can invoke APIs via model context protocol (MCP), hold balances, and pay for services in minimal units.

Wavelength is currently live on Signet and testnet with mainnet access via invitation. Bitcoin is supported initially, while stablecoin support is planned through Taproot Assets.
