Malaysia Plans to Raise Biodiesel Blend to B15, Cutting Annual Diesel Consumption by 387M Liters

According to Malaysia's Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) on July 29, the government plans to increase the biodiesel blend ratio in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah from B10 to B12 or B15, reducing annual diesel consumption by approximately 334,139 metric tons (387 million liters) and extending the country's diesel supply cycle by up to 20 days.

Malaysia currently operates 20 biodiesel refineries with capacity to support B30 blends, but most are underutilized due to current demand limited to B10 at fuel stations and B7 in some industrial sectors. The blend increase will unlock this idle production capacity. B15 biodiesel, comprising 15% palm methyl ester (PME) and 85% petroleum diesel, requires no additional end-user cost and can directly replace B10 fuel.
