Meta Expands Louisiana Hyperion Data Center to 5 GW for Over $50 Billion on July 13

According to CNBC on July 13, Meta announced it will expand its Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to 5 gigawatts (GW) at a cost of over US$50 billion, up from the original 2 GW plan priced at US$27 billion. The company expects Hyperion to reach 2 GW by 2030 and 5 GW around 2032 as it scales AI infrastructure. Meta also stated that local businesses have received over US$1.6 billion in contracts since construction began in December 2024, with plans to spend over US$1 billion on roads, water, and wastewater systems.
