Meta May Cap AI Token Spending Per Engineer as Costs Approach Salaries Within 1-2 Years

According to Meta Instagram head Adam Mosseri, AI Token costs for top engineers may approach or match their salaries within the coming one to two years. Meta is considering implementing per-engineer Token spending caps, with limits dependent on whether the company believes the investment delivers positive returns.

Meta currently has no spending limits in place. The company previously shut down an internal Token consumption leaderboard, as such rankings only encourage employees to consume more tokens without necessarily creating value. The company is shifting its AI strategy from encouraging broader adoption to calculating return on investment.
