Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Releases 975B-Parameter Inkling Model as Fully Open Source on July 15

On July 15, Thinking Machines Lab released Inkling, a 975-billion-parameter multimodal AI model trained from scratch with full weights available on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license. The model scores 74.1% on MCP Atlas—measuring how reliably AI agents complete real-world tasks using external tools—nearly 30 points above Nvidia's Nemotron 3 Ultra, making it the highest-performing Western open-weights model on agentic tool use. Inkling accepts text, images, and audio with a 1 million token context window and supports fine-tuning via Thinking Machines' cloud platform, Tinker.
