OpenAI Resets Codex and ChatGPT Work Quotas on July 11 After High-Compute Mode Billing Confusion

According to X posts from OpenAI Codex team member Tibo, the company acknowledged on July 11 that enabling high-compute mode was too easy without sufficient disclosure of its impact on usage quotas. The desktop app redesign also made common features harder to find, and promotional focus on ChatGPT Work led some Codex users to believe the product would be discontinued.

OpenAI has implemented initial fixes including adjusted default settings, plugin repairs, and improved Codex visibility. The company completed two quota resets for Codex and ChatGPT Work users over the past 24 hours. A larger update scheduled for next week will restore chat and project functions to the sidebar with customization options and clearer quota visibility.
