Panasonic Invests 500 Billion Yen in AI Infrastructure, Targets 2 Trillion Yen Data Center Revenue by 2028

According to Nikkei Asia on July 15, Panasonic is accelerating its transformation into an artificial intelligence infrastructure company through investments in data center backup battery systems. The Japanese electronics manufacturer announced plans to invest approximately 500 billion yen (about 4.57 billion dollars) over the next three years in AI infrastructure, with roughly 70 percent allocated to battery division development. Panasonic holds an 80 percent global market share in distributed backup battery units (BBU) installed in server racks, which support power efficiency and mitigate sudden GPU power demand for AI systems. The company aims to achieve 2 trillion yen (approximately 18.3 billion dollars) in data center battery business revenue by fiscal year 2028.
