Philippine Stock Index Breaks 6,400 Barrier on Foreign Fund Inflows

According to Rappler, over the last two weeks, foreign investors resumed net buying in the Philippine Stock Exchange, pushing the PSEi past the 6,400 milestone that had held steady for four months. Foreign funds account for over 50% of total value turnover on average. The inflows were driven by cooling U.S. inflation pressures—the June CPI slowed to 3.5% from 4.2% in May—combined with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas raising its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 4.75% to combat domestic commodity prices. These factors stabilized the Philippine peso and attracted capital back to emerging markets. Foreign investors particularly favored International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) and Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF), citing their strong growth prospects and defensive characteristics in an uncertain macroeconomic environment.
