Shopping Mall Collapses in Kumamoto Earthquake; 2 Dead, 8 Rescued on July 28

According to local police, on July 28, a shopping mall in Kasuga, Kumamoto Prefecture collapsed following a strong earthquake, with 2 confirmed dead. The mall also experienced an explosion that same afternoon.

As of the early morning of July 29, 8 people had been rescued from the building, including 2 women in their 20s confirmed dead and 1 person in cardiac arrest. Five others sustained injuries but were not in life-threatening condition, according to the Kumamoto Prefecture government.
