South Korea Dispatches Presidential Envoy to Qatar on July 14 for Former King's Condolences

According to Yonhap Infomax, South Korea's Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-suk departed on July 14 as a special envoy to Qatar to deliver condolences for the death of former King Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, scheduled to return on July 16. The dispatch was made at Qatar's request, following precedent for sending government officials to Gulf states during royal deaths. Former King Hamad ruled Qatar starting in 1995 before transferring the throne to his son, King Tamim, in 2013. Kang previously visited Qatar as a special envoy in April for strategic economic cooperation discussions.
