South Korea Pushes for Access to Anthropic's Mythos AI Model Under U.S. Export Controls

According to Yonhapinfomax reporting on July 24, South Korea's government is in negotiations with Anthropic regarding access to the company's advanced AI model Mythos, which is restricted by U.S. export controls as a strategic technology. Kim Yong-beom, South Korea's presidential policy chief, stated that the Science and ICT Ministry is in ongoing dialogue with Anthropic, while the company is also negotiating with Washington regulators. Mythos is designed with cybersecurity capabilities to autonomously identify system vulnerabilities and simulate attack scenarios. The U.S. government classifies it as strategic technology due to national security concerns and has imposed strict access restrictions. South Korea is prioritizing government access ahead of private enterprises, though general public access remains prohibited.
