South Korea Selects Gwangju Military Airport for New Semiconductor Cluster on July 6

According to the Presidential Office, on July 6, South Korea designated Gwangju Military Airport as the site for a new semiconductor cluster in the Honam region. Presidential Secretary Kang Hun-sik stated that the government and industry identified the airport as the most suitable location among candidates, citing approximately 2.5 million pyeong (8.3 million square meters) of available land. The airport's already-flattened terrain minimizes construction time, while its proximity to downtown Gwangju and KTX stations facilitates workforce recruitment. The location also offers superior logistics access through road, airport, and port connectivity, according to officials.
