South Korea's KIC Launches Strategic Investment Account for Domestic Companies

According to Yonhapnews, South Korea's sovereign wealth fund Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) recently announced the establishment of a strategic investment account to invest in domestic companies. The move marks a significant shift for KIC, which since its founding in 2005 has exclusively managed foreign exchange reserves. As of June 2026, KIC manages assets of $243.2 billion. The new strategic investment account will expand KIC's mandate beyond traditional foreign exchange management to support domestic strategic industries.
