Three Korean Brokerages to Introduce Fractional Stock Trading, Targeting High-Priced Shares Starting August

According to News1, Kakao Pay Securities, Toss Securities, and Korea Investment & Securities will introduce fractional trading for domestic Korean stocks starting August 2026. Fractional trading allows investors to purchase stocks in units smaller than one share, enabling investment in expensive blue-chip stocks from as little as 1,000 Korean won. The services come as the number of emperor stocks—shares priced above 1 million won—has grown to seven as of July 22, 2026, up from zero in 2024. Fractional trading volumes have been modest; domestic fractional trading generated 65.12 billion won from January to August of last year, compared to significantly higher overseas fractional trading volumes. The new services may generate new fee revenue for brokerages, which typically waive commissions on regular stock trades but charge 0.01-0.1% fees on fractional trades.
