Typhoon Bawi Forms in Northwest Pacific, Expected to Strengthen to Super Typhoon Within 6 Days

According to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Typhoon Bawi, the 9th typhoon this year, formed on the morning of July 2 in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. As of 8 a.m. local time, the typhoon's center was located approximately 1,620 kilometers east-southeast of Guam, with maximum sustained winds of 8 (18 meters per second) near the center, a central pressure of 998 hPa, and a 7-level wind radius of 180-280 kilometers. The CMA forecasts that Bawi will move westward-northward at approximately 20 kilometers per hour with gradually increasing intensity, potentially reaching super typhoon strength (17 or above) within six days. The typhoon is not expected to impact Chinese waters for the next six days, but may trend toward China's southeastern coast after July 9.
