U.S. Consumer Confidence Hits 5-Month High of 54.4 in July, Beats Forecast

According to the University of Michigan, U.S. consumer confidence rose to 54.4 in July (released today, July 17), up from 49.5 in June, exceeding economist expectations of 51.0. The surge was driven primarily by declining gasoline prices, which eased household living cost pressures. The one-year inflation expectation also improved to 4.2%, down from 4.6% in June.
