US Consumer Sentiment Index Rises to 49.5 in June, Beating Initial Estimate as Gas Prices Fall

According to Jin10 Data, the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index for June reached a final reading of 49.5 (initial estimate: 48.9) on June 26, rising approximately 10% from May as gasoline prices declined. Sentiment improved across all income, wealth, and political groups. Expectations for business conditions over the next five years surged 16%, suggesting consumer concerns about long-term consequences of the Iran conflict are easing. However, the index remains in an unfavorable range, down 13% from February 2026 (before the conflict) and nearly 20% compared to the year-ago period.
