U.S. Margin Debt Hits Record $1.53 Trillion as of June, Net Credit Balances Fall to Historic Low

According to ChainCatcher, U.S. brokers' margin debt reached a record $1.53 trillion as of June, rising approximately $86 billion in a single month and marking the third consecutive month of increases. Net credit balances in broker accounts plunged by about $70 billion month-over-month to negative $1.061 trillion, hitting a historic low. The deterioration signals that investors have reduced cash buffers and are increasingly reliant on borrowed funds to maintain equity positions.
