U.S. May Trade Deficit Hits $77.6B, Below Forecast but Up 42% Month-over-Month

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, the U.S. trade deficit in May reached $77.6 billion, below the market forecast of $78.5 billion. The deficit surged $23 billion (42.2%) compared to April's $54.6 billion, marking the largest month-over-month increase since November of last year. U.S. exports declined $10.5 billion (3.2%) to $317.7 billion, while imports rose $12.5 billion (3.3%) to $395.3 billion.
