According to Newsis, U.S. stock indices declined overnight on July 20 as Middle East geopolitical risks and surging oil prices weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.59% to 51,839.26, the S&P 500 dropped 0.19% to 7,443.28, and the Nasdaq declined 0.05% to 25,508.07.

Markets initially gained support from semiconductor sector strength, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rising 0.60% following Morgan Stanley's assessment of memory chips as an attractive entry point and Microsoft's decision to adopt AMD's next-generation AI chips. However, Yemeni Houthi forces declared a Saudi Arabian maritime blockade, and U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran would face severe consequences for U.S. casualties, intensifying tensions. Brent crude September futures rose 1.3% to $89.22 per barrel, while WTI August crude gained 0.9% to $83.23.
