US Targets China, India as Russian Oil and Gas Buyers in New Sanctions, Beijing Pledges Countermeasures

On July 15, the US unveiled updated sanctions targeting China and India as major buyers of Russian oil and gas, according to China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian. The new measures authorize up to 100% tariffs against related countries. Lin emphasized China's firm opposition to unilateral sanctions lacking international legal basis and UN Security Council authorization, pledging to take all necessary measures to protect its enterprises and citizens. "Acting with double standards and coercion will ultimately backfire," Lin stated.
