Visa Says Stablecoins Will Power Micro-Commerce in AI Agentic Economy

According to Visa, on Wednesday the company and analytics firm Artemis released a report titled "Agentic Payments from the Ground Up," highlighting how stablecoins will facilitate micro-commerce in the age of the AI agentic economy. The report identifies two categories of agentic commerce: macro-commerce involving larger consumer transactions, and micro-commerce involving frequent sub-dollar payments between software systems for services such as API calls. While traditional card networks suit macro-commerce, fixed fees make sub-dollar micropayments uneconomic. Newer blockchains have reduced settlement costs to fractions of a cent, making stablecoins a viable alternative for such payments.
