Google recently announced the launch of a free SAT mock exam service powered by Gemini. The usage is very simple—just type “I want to take a practice SAT test” in Gemini to receive free practice questions. (The author tried it but found it sometimes available)
After completing the test, Gemini will analyze the answers, identify the student’s strengths and areas for improvement, and provide detailed explanations for incorrect answers.
To ensure the quality of questions, Google stated that it has collaborated with educational institutions such as Princeton Review to ensure that practice questions are professionally reviewed and closely resemble actual SAT exams.
The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States, organized by the College Board. The exam mainly assesses students’ reading, writing, and math skills and is considered one of the important thresholds for applying to U.S. universities.
The SAT has a maximum score of 1600, divided into two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (800 points) and Math (800 points). Millions of high school students take this exam each year. Scores not only influence college admissions but may also be linked to scholarship applications.
Due to intense competition, many students spend a lot of time and money preparing for the SAT, leading to a booming tutoring and private tutoring industry. However, personalized SAT tutoring can be costly and not affordable for all students.
Google’s provision of free resources is expected to allow more students to compete on equal footing, narrowing the gap in educational resources; on the other hand, free AI prep tools may also offer private SAT tutoring services with more personalized guidance.
Just before launching this new feature, Google also introduced a Gemini-powered podcast audio course in mid-month. Other Gemini educational tools include assisting teachers with brainstorming, creating lesson plans, and tailoring teaching materials for classes.
As AI applications in education become increasingly widespread, how to balance the effective use of technology with fostering students’ independent thinking will remain an important issue of ongoing concern in the education sector.
