Many overseas Chinese (ordinary people) often have very complex psychological states. On one hand, they hope the domestic situation deteriorates, which can prove the correctness of their choice to leave their hometown. On the other hand, they don't want their motherland to become too bad, and even hope certain aspects improve continuously. After all, people abroad fear being looked down upon by locals. It's like saying you grew up in a county town when in Beijing or Shanghai—there's always a bit of inferiority complex, especially when you haven't yet established roots locally and are still in a difficult period of drifting away from home.
