According to CNBC on Tuesday, tech investor Chamath Palihapitiya warned that artificial intelligence usage could negatively impact companies' earnings because executives lack visibility into internal AI token spending. "CEOs and CFOs probably have no idea how much tokenmaxxing is going on inside of their organizations," Palihapitiya told CNBC's Squawk Box. "One day you're going to have a miss, and EPS will be off by a few pennies." Palihapitiya's comments echo concerns raised by Palantir CEO Alex Karp, who recently criticized OpenAI and Anthropic's token-based pricing models, warning that enterprises are "wasting" resources on inefficient AI token consumption.
