Crypto Wrench Attacks Hit $124M in H1 2026, with 63.5% of Incidents in France

According to CertiK's H1 2026 Wrench Attack Report, the crypto industry recorded 52 verified physical coercion incidents worth $124.1 million, an 11.8-fold increase from $10.5 million in H1 2025. France accounted for 33 of 52 global cases, or 63.5% of the total and 84.6% of European incidents, driven by large-scale identity-data breaches including the France Travail and ANTS portal compromises affecting millions of citizens.

The report identifies a sharp shift in attack vectors: home invasions rose from 1 incident in H1 2025 to 20 in H1 2026, representing roughly 41% of all cases. Average exposure per incident grew from $270,000 to $2.39 million, indicating attackers are targeting higher-value victims rather than expanding the incident count. French authorities recorded 77 total crypto-related physical incidents in the same period, suggesting CertiK's count captures only verified public cases.
