ECB Policymaker Wunsch Signals Weaker Case for Further Rate Hike on June 30

According to Jin10, European Central Bank policymaker Wunsch said on June 30 that the case for another rate hike has become less clear. He noted that the source of economic shocks has "more or less" disappeared following a U.S.-Iran agreement. "We may still need to hike again, as market pricing reflects, but the necessity is not as strong as we expected in June," Wunsch said. "If we decide another hike is needed, I would prefer to act quickly, but this doesn't necessarily mean July." He added that while inflation may experience some second-round effects, he is not overly concerned and would not delay further action if data warrants it.
