EIA Forecasts Record Natural Gas Consumption in U.S. Power Sector in 2027

NG-1.01%
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) short-term energy outlook released by Jin10 Data on July 8, natural gas consumption in the American power sector is forecast to hit a record level next year, driven by rising overall electricity demand, expanded natural gas generation capacity, and relatively low natural gas prices. The EIA predicts economy-wide natural gas demand will rise slightly this year and grow 3 percent in 2027. Wholesale electricity prices are expected to average approximately $45 per megawatt-hour this summer, down from last year, primarily due to lower natural gas costs at power plants, though summer heat waves could still cause price spikes.
