Germany Demands €4B Cut to EU's 2028-2034 Budget on June 30

According to Jin10, on June 30, Germany demanded a €4 billion ($4.56 billion) reduction to the European Commission's proposed 2028-2034 budget, totaling €2 trillion. An internal government document warned the current plan is "unaffordable." As the EU's largest net contributor, Germany expressed concern that even with its proposed cut, the budget would still be 27% higher than the current 2021-2027 cycle, requiring Berlin to contribute over €50 billion annually. Germany's strong opposition signals difficult negotiations ahead, as EU budget approval requires unanimous consent from all 27 member states.
