Moonshot AI's Kimi K4 Faces Blackwell Chip Shortage; Larger Model Scale Than K3

NVDA0.42%

According to reports monitored by Beating and The Information, Moonshot AI has begun discussions on Kimi K4 with substantially larger scale than K3, though the company is actively seeking Nvidia Blackwell chips and faces significant hardware constraints. The Information also reported that part of K3's training was completed in China rather than solely in Thai data centers.

K3's deployment, which reached 28 trillion parameters, was completed by connecting multiple eight-GPU servers across different Chinese cloud providers due to insufficient individual capacity. Since K3's launch, operational compute has been strained; the company suspended new subscriptions within 48 hours due to soaring user demand. K4's timeline currently remains undetermined, contingent on the availability of additional Blackwell chips.
