Qualcomm Acquires Modular to Build Open AI Software Stack for Data Centers and Edge Computing

According to ChainCatcher, Qualcomm announced on June 24 that it has reached an agreement to acquire Modular, strengthening its generative AI and agentic AI software foundation for data centers and edge environments. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Modular provides an open AI-native software stack that enables efficient AI execution across different hardware architectures, supporting CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, and custom ASICs without requiring model rewrites for each accelerator. This approach allows developers and enterprises to build once and deploy across multiple environments while reducing total cost of ownership.
