Rocket Lab to Acquire Iridium Communications for $8 Billion, Targets SpaceX's Satellite Communications Lead

According to BlockBeats, Rocket Lab announced on June 30 its acquisition of satellite communications provider Iridium Communications for approximately $8 billion, with the transaction expected to close mid-2027. Iridium shareholders will receive $27 per share in cash plus company stock valued at $54 per share total, representing a 24.1% premium to the prior trading day's close. The deal integrates Rocket Lab's launch and satellite manufacturing capabilities with Iridium's globally-deployed L-band satellite network, licensed spectrum, and customer base exceeding 2.5 million government, defense, aviation, maritime, and commercial clients.
