South Korea's PIPC Fines Bithumb $136,000 for Sharing User Data Without Consent on June 25

According to South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), Bithumb was fined 210 million Korean won (approximately $136,000) on June 25 for sharing user personal information with overseas platforms without proper consent. The unauthorized data transfers occurred between September and November 2025, when Bithumb shared user information including names, wallet addresses, and birth dates while facilitating asset transfers with 13 foreign crypto exchanges and transmitting USDT order book data. PIPC also mandated that Bithumb implement process and management reforms regarding cross-border user data transfers.
