Trump's Teleprompter Operator Faces CFTC Probe, Trading Ban Over $100K Kalshi Windfall

According to ABC News, Gabriel Perez, who has operated Trump's teleprompter since 2016, is in settlement talks with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission over allegations he placed winning bets on Kalshi prediction markets tied to Trump speeches. Kalshi flagged the trading pattern in March 2026 and referred the case to the CFTC. Investigators found Perez bet on more than a dozen Trump speeches over roughly three months, including the February State of the Union address and January World Economic Forum remarks. Proposed settlement terms would require Perez to repay his approximately $100,000 in profits and face trading restrictions. No criminal charges have been filed, and federal prosecutors in Manhattan declined to open a case after the CFTC referral.
