TSMC Japan Plant Halts Production After 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Kumamoto

According to Yonhap News, TSMC's Japan subsidiary JASM temporarily halted production on July 28 following a 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan. The facility subsequently resumed production in stages after structural verification. The Kumamoto plant, which has a monthly production capacity of 55,000 12-inch wafers and accounts for less than 4% of TSMC's global capacity, primarily manufactures logic chips rather than memory semiconductors, limiting direct impact on DRAM, NAND flash, and HBM supply.
