U.S. DoD Launches First Strategic Lithium Procurement, Plans 16,167 Tons Over Five Years for $300M

According to 澎湃, on July 2, the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) announced a tender for a five-year fixed-price contract to procure battery-grade lithium carbonate for America's strategic defense reserve. The procurement targets up to 16,167 tons of lithium carbonate with a maximum contract value of $300 million. This marks the first large-scale U.S. effort to add lithium to its national defense stockpile. The DLA will accept bids until July 17 and award the contract to the lowest-priced qualified supplier, with a guaranteed minimum purchase of $1 million.
