Base Blockchain Experiences Two Outages on June 25-26 Due to Sequencer Bug, 116 and 20 Minutes Each

According to Base official statement, the blockchain experienced two block production outages on June 25-26, lasting 116 and 20 minutes respectively. The root cause was a sequencer logic flaw where legacy journal state failed to clear after transaction execution failure, causing subsequent transactions to miscalculate gas and generate invalid state transitions, halting the L2 chain. On-chain assets remained secure throughout both incidents.

Base has deployed a fix and plans to enhance protocol fuzzing and stress testing to identify malicious transaction paths. The team will also optimize monitoring and introduce recovery mechanisms to improve incident response capabilities.
