HashKey Donates 10M HKD to Support Hong Kong Tai Po Fire Relief

HashKey Group has announced an emergency donation of 10 million Hong Kong dollars. To support rescue and relief efforts after the deadly Tai Po fire. The company said the funds will support frontline emergency efforts and help displaced families rebuild their lives

The fire erupted on November 26 at Hong Fuk Estate in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district and rapidly intensified into a Level 5 blaze. Which is the highest emergency alert. Flames spread rapidly along the exterior of the buildings. Within hours the incident turned into one of the deadliest fires Hong Kong has seen in decades. HashKey expressed deep respect for the frontline rescue teams. The company also said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further help if needed.

A Tragedy That Shook Hong Kong

The fire started at around 2:51 PM local time. At a high rise public housing complex. The estate consists of multiple residential towers with ongoing exterior renovation work. The fire raced upward along scaffolding attached to the outside walls. By the following day, at least 44 people had lost their lives, including one firefighter. Dozens more were hospitalized and many in critical condition. Officials said there were tense moments early on. As hundreds of residents could not be immediately accounted for during the rescue.

More than 900 residents moved into temporary shelters after the authorities evacuated them. The disaster separated families. The event left entire blocks uninhabitable. The city watched in shock as rescue crews worked through the night. Officials later revealed that plastic sheeting, protective netting and foam insulation were used on the scaffolding. Which may not have met fire safety standards. Police believe these materials helped the flames spread faster than expected.

Arrests Made as Investigation Intensifies

As rescue operations continued. Hong Kong authorities have opened a full scale investigation into what caused the blaze. A dedicated task force is now leading the probe. Police have arrested three senior executives from the construction company responsible for the exterior renovation. Specifically, they face suspicion of manslaughter linked to unsafe building practices

Investigators are now reviewing safety approvals, material sourcing and site supervision records. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive also ordered citywide inspections of public housing estates currently undergoing major renovation. The goal is to prevent a similar disaster from happening again.
